A Dream To Pursue
Seems like we all carry within us a basic urge for independence. This is a strong enough drive in some that leads to being self-employed, to building a business of your own, to doing whatever it takes to achieve true independence.
For others, if this basic urge is unfulfilled, it leads to a high level of frustration. Eventually, for a few motivated individuals, this leads to the kind of action required to satisfy the urge.
That's why the human psyche is so fascinating: seeing what drives certain actions.
Since the dawn of civilization humans have responded to frustrations and challenges by being inventive. Our ancient ancestors created tools to solve specific problems. They developed methods of communication. They were inventive in creating societies with structure. The concept of trading items of value evolved to become our current system of trade and finance.
And throughout it all, individuals rose up to lead in certain areas, be it in thought, in science, in religion, in government, in business.
Let's focus on leadership in business.
Just as it does in the corporate world, in the home business arena, success is defined by the role of business leader. To be truly successful as a self-employed entrepreneur, leadership qualities that are evident to anyone meeting that person must be developed.
Think about this: Do you have a burning desire to be self-employed? Yet you find yourself working in a situation where that dream is, at this point, unfulfilled? If you relate to this, you're not alone.
If you find yourself in this situation and want to change it, I have some advice. The best place to start is by working on developing your leadership qualities.
This may sound like strange advice if in fact you're looking for a business opportunity. People spend hours researching business opportunities given their desire for financial freedom and independence. These are, of course, goals well worth pursuing.
If you do get into a home-based business, your leadership skills are the foundation of your future success. This holds true regardless of the business you decide to start.
The simple fact is, nobody is going to believe you're serious about your business if you don't project those strong leadership qualities. You need to ooze confidence. You need to be decisive. You need to have firm convictions about your choices. People who join you in business need to feel assured that you are someone they can follow with confidence.
Think about yourself and who you choose to follow. Would you follow a "non-leader"? Someone who couldn't make a firm decision, who was insecure in their choices, who was unsure about which way to turn? The majority of people, if they start following someone they thought was a leader but turned out not to be, quickly abandon that person in favor of a leader to follow.
That's why I encourage you to work on your leadership qualities, even while searching for the right business opportunity. Because when you find it, you need to be ready to grab it and run with it. When you do find the right opportunity, that is not the time to start working on your leadership skills! When you find that opportunity you need to be ready to demonstrate that yes, you are a leader, and move forward with conviction and confidence!
