What To Do When You're Given a Pink Slip
Almost two months ago, my husband came home and told me a very good friend of ours had been laid off. It was shocking to us. He had been at the company for almost 15 years, was a 6-figure earner, his wife is a stay-at-home mom, and he is the sole provider for their family!
To follow that story, I have another friend who had just gotten out of the Army a year ago. He served in Iraq, but could not find a job for a year. A couple of months ago, he finally accepted a civilian job in Iraq and is away from his baby three months at a time.
You hear these stories all too often! Every time I hear one more of these sad stories, I am SO grateful to have found my profession of network marketing. I couldn't be happier with it. Yes I work my butt off in learning the skills it takes to find the ridiculous success I've set out to achieve. The more I learn, the more I earn! Yes, I get frustrated. Yes, there are days when I want to quit, but I can't and won't. Yes, I have to sacrifice some time with my kids here and there. What does that all sound like? A job, right!!!???
To a certain degree. The 3% of successful network marketers who are earning a very comfortable living will NEVER tell you it was so easy. They will tell you they sacrificed time IN THE BEGINNING with family, they will tell you they spent time & money figuring out the skills IN THE BEGINNING, they will tell you they wanted to quit sometimes IN THE BEGINNING. See where I'm going with this? This is not a JOB! It's a gift that someone gave to us and so few of us choose to WORK at it.
Some think its a golden ticket and wait for a pile of money to be handed to them on a silver platter. While others think it is a gift, however, that gift has to be unwrapped gently, opened up carefully, and then the gift has to be put together, reading instructions, drilling in screws, putting on wheels, and then, voila! You hit the 'ON' button and the gift is roaring forward!
Why the difference in thinking? The same happens in the work force. Why do some people stay for YEARS as a mail room clerk and some scoop up the promotions almost as quickly as they appear on the job board? Because the ones scooping up the promotions are the ones that WORK for it. They learn new skills, they work late, they stay in front of the important people who can teach them, they put in the time!
The dedication for a job is the same for a network marketing business. It's everyday commitment to show up, its continuing to self-develop to learn more skills, however, the rewards are FAR greater! 'Working' a network marketing business is a 5 year commitment, whereas, working a job is a 40 year commitment. Oh, and by the way, at the end of your 5 years as a network marketer, you can retire and at the end of your job commitment, you're broke! Geez! Why don't more people get this??
So, to tie up my beginning stories, I sent my two friends the business overview for my company with both their permission. Neither even watched a minute of it, however, both said, 'No thanks, Vidette. I think I'll hold out for something more stable,' I kept with the professional high-road and wished them both good luck, but I was itching to scream at them, 'You were given a day's notice that you no longer had a way to support your family and you think that is stable?' It's been 2 months for one friend and over a year for the other without working and a 30-minute overview couldn't be watched? Something that COULD possess the answer they were looking for? It' an option and it doesn't hurt to look. If you honestly watch it and its not a fit, then I'm cool with that. To not look is simply plain ignorance!
So, they are both in the same situation. I don't mean to knock my friends, but I just wish everyone could see that there are options. Different, but there are options. They aren't comfortable or normal, but there are legitimate options that could quickly replace a job! If you've have been handed a pink slip, know this: the world is changed and 'safe' is now the new risky! Forge ahead down a road that may not be comfortable, but don't wait for months! In a few months, you could actually be almost replacing your income. Network marketing is exploding. More millionaires will be made this year because of this industry. Most won't have the discipline to make it work, but for those who do, life will never be the same!
Those who will need a mentor and a system that will get you earning a check quickly! Be open to something different! More millionaires will be produced this year because of Network Marketing than any other industry. It's not just for stay-at-home moms having parties in the living room anymore! If you're a worker, if you've fallen on desperate times, and you are disciplined, then you are perfect for this profession! At one time or another, my decision to be a network marketer was new, scary and unknown. I dove right in and couldn't even begin to explain how different my life is in only 1 year!
