Stop Procrastinating

Are you one of those, who say they are sorry for being late? Beyond the apologies, are you not concerned how things will turn out against your favor? To put it simply, you cannot help it but be late.

I have worked with a few of these types of people through my coaching and have noticed a couple of things-for one, this behavior can cause a lot of long-term regret. Why? Because other people don't like waiting around for you and will eventually get frustrated enough that they will look for any excuse to no longer work with you. Even if people do choose to work with you, the Franklin Planner type zealots could harbor ill feelings toward you for having to wait, and that never makes a situation better.

I have one client, who has a pertinent issue with her partner. A supposedly non-issue always turn out a heated discussion just because her partner is late. She always complained to me how could she motivate her partner not to repeat his instances of late.

How will you change the habit? There's an old saying, if you have the desires, definitely you can make it happen!

Step #1- Be Considerate of Other People's Time

Check in with yourself and decide if you honestly care if your are late. Does it matter to you that other people are thinking your behavior is rude? Does it really matter to you that you are losing business whether you know it or not because people consider you less professional?

I hope it does matter because if not, you better be because this impact negatively in the long run. Make other people's time matter to you. For your own self respect and character, do everything you can so as not to proscratinate. Once you are able to do this, then you are ready to proceed to the next step.

Step #2-Identify Where the Hang-Up Is

People are late for different reasons. Think through it, specify what are the relevant causes of your delay. It is important that you get as clear as possible, as soon as possible, and drill down to find the answers of why you are late. If its about perspective, change your outlook.

Other clients were guilty of trying to do one more thing before they left for their appointment. And still others had a hard time figuring out that if they wanted to be at a place at four they needed to calculate what time they should get into the car to arrive on time.

Step #3-Implement Structure Based on Your Hang-Up

With the reasons of your chronic lates, create a structure that will help you inhibit yourself from repeating such instances. Say for example, my husband is often guilty of really having no concept of time. He goes to do one thing, and then another problem comes up, so he goes to handle that, and before he knows it hours have gone by. So he has learned to preset an alarm on his phone to alert him with a certain note that reminds him where he is supposed to be in his schedule.

I coached the client that tried to do one more thing before he left for an appointment, to bring that one more thing with him in the car (if possible), and if he arrived early or had to wait for his appointment, he could do that one more thing as he waited.

Step #4 Track and Celebrate

It is important if you are chronically late, to track how often you show up on time, early, and late. The more you pay attention, the more insights you will have about your patterns. The more you know where you get hung-up, the better you will be at pinpointing what is in the way. Often it isn't the time that's truly getting in your way, but it is that you are not paying attention or planning ahead.

It always serves better if you have some way to celebrate when you do start changing your pattern for the better. Make it a game - if you are on time for the next ten times, reward yourself with a movie, read a book that you want, or take yourself out to a favorite restaurant.

Nobody will deny that being late is not a good habit. If you take the time and put forth the energy to change that habit around, you'll love the new habit of being on time or early.

Advantages and disadvantages of Hiring a Headhunter

The leading question you need to answer before you hire a headhunter to help you with a job search is "are headhunters your friend or foe?" Keep in mind headhunters can be part of a recruiting firm but they don't work for you - they only work for the company that will hire you. As a job seeker, you want to be at the top of the list of eligible candidates, especially when the job market has become so competitive.

One obvious advantage of working with a reputed headhunter or recruiting firm is that you have excellent chances of landing in a workplace that is optimal to your skills. Professional headhunters thoroughly grasp the exact standards and consideration of the recruiting firm, therefore, they contact the right group of people.

If you are looking for a job in a specific industry or sector, it is better that you contact a headhunter who specializes in the equivalent area. It is important that the person or recruiting firm you contact has a good notion about the talents of your field. You can then receive valuable information about the company you will presumably join before you are selected. This will also help you get acquainted with the line of work you are about to get in.

You can also hire a headhunter to help you fix your resume. Since you are dealing with a professional service to help you with your job search, you will be charged for this work. You may have to pay the fee up front, while some headhunters and recruiting firms ask you to pay only after you get a job. The second option proves to be better in a sense that you can continue searching for the job on your own.

If you are attempting to find a specialized job and you hire a headhunter, you can be deceived with dream jobs that just don't exist. Thus, you need to be careful when dealing with headhunting services or recruiting firms and before you go ahead with the fee payment.

Retained Search vs. Contingency Search: Which is right for you?

When a firm wishes to take on a new worker, it is faced with the difficult decision of whether to go for retained search or contingency search. Both options have a number of merits and disadvantages.

A contingency recruiter is compensated only on the successful hiring of the required personnel, whereas you are required to pay a retained recruitment firm in advance for executive search. As the retained searcher is paid in advance, he can afford to spend time in searching for the right candidate. Alternatively, a contingency recruiter doesn't have the luxury to spend too much time on a specific assignment since at the end of the day, the contingency recruiter is uncertain if the search would be fruitful or not.

To bring the most qualified person available on board, quite a bit of energy, time, and research is required on the recruiter's part. This cannot be realized by hiring a contingency recruiter. A contingency recruiter will only spend a limited quantity of time and resources on the executive search and will not be able to hire the best possible candidate for a specific job. Retained search firms show more devotion and determination which results in the hiring the right candidate for the necessary position.

Another fact which in many cases goes against contingency recruiters is that they work in an atmosphere of intense competition which stimulates them to consider candidates as commodities. Contingency recruiters do not manage to create an impression of client commitment which many times affects the recruitment process adversely.

Retained search firms manage to construct strong relationships with clients because of their strong networking skills. Retained searchers focus on finding the most suitable fit, not just simply recruiting any individual to satisfy the required spot. Such firms are well aware of the high expectations of their clients and work to verify that these expectations are met.

Ways to make Your Job Search Successful

Scouring for a job may not be the most basic task on your schedule, but it is enormously essential in determining your success. You don't always have to leave your present job before you begin searching for a new one. Alternatively, you can contact a recruiting firm to aid you in the job search and make it a success.

Working with a recruiting firm turns out to be very valuable in the sense that you have more odds of finding the perfect company and the right group of people. Regardless of your nature of employment i.e. contract, part-time or permanent, you can work with a recruiting firm to find a more suitable job. If you genuinely want to know the best reasons to work with a firm, visualize the following situation.

You desert your job to realize an exciting opportunity, but regrettably this does not happen. Now rethink the situation if you worked with a recruiting firm. You send an updated resume to a recruiting firm that works with well-known clients. You will be contacted by the firm if there is a suitable job vacancy. What does this mean?

Recruiting firms know the exact specifications of their clients, so you have superior chances of finding a company that specializes in your area of interest. Second, you can get an inside scoop on the most rewarding job openings in your desired industries even if the assignments are not advertised. Third, recruiting firms save your time and offer greater convenience as they understand the job market.

The only thing you really should keep in mind is that working with recruiting firms does not warrant you a position. Recruiters only act as gatekeepers and send you to the relevant authorities. While it is valuable to work with a recruiting firm, you should first ask the recruiters whether or not they will charge for the service. You should always work with a respected firm that has associated experience in your field of expertise.

Tips To Remember In Your Job Interview

Meeting the potential employer for an interview is the second step in getting the job. The first step that an applicant has successfully completed was sending your application and passing the screening process of the company.

It's possible that the employer got the resume by a person who simply submitted an application by logging on the company's website, through a variety of sources that can be from an ad that was posted, a referral from a friend or a headhunter.

In order to have a successful interview, here are a few tips that might be helpful.

It is best to do some research about the company one is applying to before going to an interview.

Practicing mock up questions that the employer will likely ask with a friend or family member is also the best option so that you do not choke during the real interview.

When you go for an interview, driving 10 to 15 minutes ahead of time is a good idea as well. Doing this will show the employers that you are punctual and will serve as a good attribute in a potential employee.

When you are meeting an employer, an extra copy of the resume and other documents that are needed if asked certain questions are what you should bring. Architects and photographers who are professionals in the respective fields and have a portfolio in the works done which may impress the interviewer is a good example.

It is always best to dress appropriately. This shows the employer sincerity on the part of the applicant applying for the job. One must have finger-nails and hair well groomed for the interview. The outfit worn should be professional. In other words, the shoes you wear should match the outfit you have on. If you typically wear a lot of jewelry, it is advisable to remove and tone it down for the interview.

When you are in front of the employer, smile and greet the interviewer with a firm (but not bone crushing) handshake which is always a good start to get the interview moving.

During the course of the interview, make sure that you listen well to the questions being asked. In order for you to sell yourself to the potential employer, each question must be answered truthfully and confidently.

What the applicant should do afterwards is thank the recruiter for the time that was given to meet for the interview.

Seven Mortgage Broker Training Tips Discussed In Brief

There are some things that you can do if your goal in life is to become a success as a mortgage broker. There is no such thing as a shortcut to becoming the best in your trade, and if you think there is, you are sorely mistaken - you have to be the best and accept no excuses if you want to be a cut above everybody else.

Here are seven mortgage broker training tips that you can follow if you want to be the best in the industry.

Less is more - use not hundreds, but use just a select few lenders if you want to be a successful mortgage broker. A common mistake of mortgage brokers is the tendency to work with as many lenders as possible with the ultimate goal of making more money. That is not at all necessary - all you need is about five lenders with a good track record, and you can earn a substantial amount of money with a fraction of the effort.

Make yourself familiar with your lenders' protocol for loans before beginning work with them. After all, if you are going to be selling their loans, you need to know everything about them. A lot of brokers make the unfortunate mistake of assuming all rules are the same. Do not let this happen to you.

Maintain rapport and stay in contact with lenders, underwriters or anybody else you may be working with closely as a mortgage broker. If you develop a cordial relationship with these people, they would be more likely to support you in the good times and the bad. Mailers, courtesy calls, email, "snail mail" and small trinkets of appreciation (especially for the holidays) all can help to this end.

Have a concrete idea of the market you are working with and an idea how you will be working with that market. In other words, know what you sell and stick to it. This includes the loans that you are trying to sell to borrowers, as well as what type of people you will work with. Some brokers have certain requirements, such as the borrower needing to have a specific credit score in order to qualify for the loan. This is not a bad idea as long as you are consistent.

Find your "place in the sun", discover your own specialty. By doing this you will have much less competition to go up against. One example would be specializing in foreclosure loans. Of course, you have to expect some competition along the way, but expect it not to be that tough.

Do not embellish truths or do anything else that would compromise your professionalism in the industry. This process can be hard on everybody; but a good mortgage broker can make things seem much easier.

Ask people that you know in the industry if they can help you garner new business. You are, in a sense, creating your own marketing strategy through networking. Too many mortgage brokers overlook this mortgage broker training tip, yet it can be surprisingly effective if you play your cards right.

These are but seven mortgage broker training tips, and to discuss more of these would go against our goal of discussing this topic with pith. Now it is time for you to create YOUR own list of tips if you want to be more successful than everybody else you are working with.

Hiring the Best Recruiting Firm to Seek the Perfect Employees

Hiring the ideal personnel is the foremost step towards creating an efficient work force. The concern is how can you pull off this herculean task? To hire employees who are skilled, efficient, and task oriented, you need to hire a recruiting firm. Recruiting firms understand their job thoroughly, meaning, they are aware of where to look and whom to look for. Some of the advantages of hiring such firms are listed below:

It saves time: Conducting the recruitment process yourself is very time intensive and demanding. Employers frequently find out that even with their days of efforts they don't manage to hire employees who reach their exact specifications. Companies can easily prevent this from occurring by hiring a recruiting firm instead of losing your time going through resumes and interviewing and screening candidates.

Such firms guarantee that the employee you hire has the exact skill set you require. Recruiting firms also do background checks and efficiently conduct pre-employment verifications so that you can rest assured that the candidate is perfect for the job.

It saves money: Recruitment and selection of employees is a costly process. When you hire employees, you are actually investing in them. If you discover that the employee you hired doesn't meet your needs after a length of time, you will not only waste your firm's time but also money.

On the other hand, hiring a recruiting firm will not only ensure that you hire only the most eligible team but you will also reap profits from it. Such a firm will expedite the hiring process, do effective pre-employment verification of the candidate's personal, professional and criminal record and also facilitate in smooth on-boarding of the incumbent.

Hire a firm to hire right employees. Hiring is a lot more than just interviewing a few employees. To bring qualified personnel onboard, a recruiting firm will ensure that the person you hire matches the job description.

Theory X Organizational Structure

In the present day business in US, "Theory X' is seldom seen as an ideal management principle and most of the companies at present relay on its opposite philosophy which is the Theory Y'. Dr. Douglas developed the Theory X', which states that on average, employees are indolent and have an instinctive feeling of opposition towards work and that they try to escape from the job responsibility at any cost. With this view, the theory suggests that a close supervision is required for the employees, blended with a system of reinforcements through punishments and rewards.

McGregor's Theory Y is the opposite of Theory X and says that workers aren't lazy and do not shun responsibility. They like to work toward the good of the business if they have the opportunity. We can see that in the United States there are still companies that follow Theory X and closely supervise their workers instead of adhering to Mr. McGregor's principles.

There are companies that firmly believe that workers are inherently lazy and needs constant supervision to perform their task. The selection criteria for a suitable management theory, for any organization is a difficult task. While many consider McGregor's theory as the most suitable one, we can find a few who agrees with the Douglas' theory also.

It is strictly based on the type of job and the organization that one has to select the most appropriate management theory for it. With the advancements in communication technology of modern world, it is easy for the managers to monitor the work of their subordinates. Even though many companies rely on productive thinking and planning as an administrative technique for the better outcome, close supervision with the use of technology is also exists in the modern economy.

Educational qualification, job skills, licensure and training are additional criteria that decide selection or rejection of the applicants for most of the job roles today. Presence of only qualified and interested personnel on the field for a job role is ensured in this way and thus this makes the McGregor's principle more desirable than the 'Theory X'. However, this does not rules out the close supervision of some job roles like those that require handling of money and personal information. Of course, the degree of supervision in the job roles depends upon the nature of the job. If cameras and/or other technologies are used for surveillance in these areas, it can free up time for supervisors to work more productively. They will have more time to spend on improving certain areas of the company, which may include marketing and scouting out new opportunities. Managers will also be available in an advisory capacity to assist employees by guiding them through certain tasks. Highlighting talents of individual employees can help to build that employee's feelings of belonging to the group, as well as relationships between them and others in the company. Efficiency and morale can be improved greatly in this way. Productivity can be markedly affected and the company can become more goal-oriented by taking notice of regular feedback from its employees.

Why Is Health And Safety Important For Your Business?

Two areas that have become increasingly important but are also easier to manage in recent years are occupational health and safety and public health and safety. In the general public and employees, there has been an increase in awareness of health and safety concerns.

The increasingly litigious cultural atmosphere has brought health and safety to the forefront of most public and business decisions. This has been paralleled, however, by a growth in the availability of health and safety professionals, and also in better and more detailed health and safety information on the Internet.

From the management of physical risk in your place of work, to employee health and safety concerns about noise or stress levels, occupational health and safety measures can then take many forms.

Having a plan for every possible health and safety situation that could arise, or even that all could be feasibly predicted anyway is the important thing for businesses.

Depending on your business area, there may be an organization that monitors the health and safety in your workplace - this particularly applies to dangerous locations such as railways, nuclear installations and mines, and to workplaces involved with vulnerable people, such as nursery schools, care homes and hospitals.

It is possible that the occupational health and safety of these businesses will be monitored and checked regularly by an independent organization.

If such a group does not cover your place of work, it is recommended that you invest in a professional health and safety inspection. You could alternatively appoint a permanent group of occupational health and safety experts, depending on the size and needs of your enterprise.

You can monitor public health and safety by a government agency, or independent health and safety professionals may be employed to judge the health and safety of a prospective project or place of work.

Public health and safety should take into account both the health and safety of the public sector employees and of members of the general population whose health and safety may be affected by a project.

Fortunately, you do not need to be a technological genius or a graduate of an engineering or Computer Science course. Again, all you need is a little basic knowledge and you should be well covered in your job search.

Expressing ideas in speech and in writing

Finding a good job can be ensured if you know how to properly express yourself verbally and in writing. These are people who can articulate their thoughts in a clear and consistent manner, may it be through oral or written communication.

Ability to organize things

No employer would like to hire somebody who is disorganized. In order for a company to achieve synergy and a positive relationship between employee and employer, organization is one thing you cannot do without. So in the grand scheme of things, developing a sense of order in the workplace would be paramount when looking for somebody new to hire for a certain job.

Interpersonal skills

The working world is a mishmash of different personalities and upbringings, hence the importance of flexibility when it comes to dealing with different kinds of people and different attitudes of employees.

Keep Ahead: Keep Your Business Safe With Random Drug Testing And Other Options

For many different reasons there are times when it is a good idea to keep your business safe with random drug testing and this is going to be carried out under certain circumstances. One needs to take certain things into account before proceeding with this, however. Also, one needs to realize that drugs are something which can affect everyone from a whole range of different backgrounds and classes. Anybody can be a possible user or even an addict, so it is a good idea to make sure that there are tight regulations on this.

Before going ahead with this, however, there are a number of things which need to be taken into account. First of all, there are a lot of individuals out there today who have been prescribed various forms of medication. Some of these might contain the likes of codeine, which is a chemical compound that is similar to that which is contained within heroine. Often this is used for those who are in extreme pain most of the time.

Be sure to note the separation between the likes of illegal drugs and those which come with prescription. It is a good idea to do some research on this topic before deciding to go ahead and start to keep your business safe with random drug testing. Be sure to note the different substances and what sort of effects it will normally have on those who take them.

In some instances if employees are found to be in the possession of certain substances which are illegal, then prosecution is going to be a very real possibility. Of course, the area where the business is based will have to be factored into this. Laws might sometimes be very different depending on the state or region. Certain substances might only carry a hefty fine and result in confiscation: punishment will therefore depend on the business.

So be one hundred percent sure about what the current drug laws are if one wants to keep your business safe with random testing. This will ensure that there are no costly mistakes to be made. Trust is also an important aspect of the whole thing, and many employees might feel somewhat disillusioned if they think that their superiors do not trust them in any way.

There are a lot of people out there who might think that action of this nature is extreme. Of course, there are certain places where the company will require that individuals pass random drug tests every now and then. In order to make this legal, it will be outlined in the individual's contract and they will be made aware of it before beginning to work for the company. Signing for permission is usually going to be binding.

It might be common practice amongst many business that the usual policy will be testing a person who is suspected of being on certain substances which are illegal. This might be outlined in the contract of the individual, depending on whether they are showing certain signs or not. Before going ahead with it, however, be sure to gather enough evidence to support the case or there might be grounds for a law suit.

Employers want to know that their workers are giving their job one hundred percent effort so sometimes the only way would be to keep your business safe with random drug testing. This is always going to be an issue that is somewhat sensitive, so it needs to be approached in the correct manner. Also, be sure to get on the right side of the law. Always do a significant amount of research before deciding to implement any new policies within the work place. In extreme cases, some employees might resign if they feel it is unfair although this could be unlikely.

Business owners, you can find complete details about the benefits of random drug testing in the workplace and more information about a leading DNA testing company on our website, today.

Why And How Can Mobile Drug Testing Save Your Company Time And Money While Developing Efficient Workers

How can mobile drug testing save your company time and money? It is one of the most recent methods for a company to make sure that every one of its workers are operating in a secure atmosphere. The businesses that offer this program can perform the same checks that the conventional, fixed center can. Frequently, these firms ask for costs which are competitive with regards to their more traditional brethren. This, in addition to their capability to carry any kind of evaluation tools, has triggered the industry to develop tremendously in the last 10 years.

Examining workers for drug abuse has met with a bit of opposition through the years. Detractors have asserted it creates an adverse mindset with staff and develops doubt. However, many accounts and reviews have proved this through displaying improved effectiveness as well as cohesiveness amongst staff which are frequently examined. The outcomes will be held private and government restrictions forbid their release outside the organization. So long as the business includes a substance screening plan carried out and obviously evident for their workers, a ethical element should not be any issue.

In recent years, certain studies have begun to show obvious benefits of on-site illegal substance examinations. So much so that the federal government is requiring these services for their employees and many businesses that operate under their jurisdiction. The Department of Transportation has instituted rules for how a corporation should test their workers. Also, the Leave No Child Behind Act allows for and provides funding to any entity that checks employees for substance abuse and receives money from the government for education. Other, more obvious benefits do not require studies or reports to be apparent, however.

A typical, on-site substance abuse exam can cost a considerable amount per employee. In general, a worker is away from their duties for 15 minutes while taking the test - the same amount of time as a coffee-break. When compared with the a day long duty of sending an employee to a facility for the same purpose, the benefits on efficiency is obvious.

How Can Integrated Time Clocks Make Your Payroll Easier?

When you're in the midst of calculating your employee payroll do you ever step back and take the time to determine just how much it is costing you to have your human resources department calculate the payroll? If you're looking for a way to save money on payroll and enhance not only your efficiency but accuracy of the payroll calculations you should look to integrate time clocks with your payroll department. Time clocks make payroll calculations quick and easy for all involved and make the payroll process more systematic. Consider an automated payroll system with time clocks to take the guesswork and errors out of payroll duties.

Integrating your time tracking software into your payroll processing system frees up valuable employee time on payroll duties. When you decide to use an integrated time clock and payroll system you also allow your employees the peace of mind of knowing that there will not be errors in the paychecks. Automated time clocks also offer employees access to their time sheets so they can not only look and see the number of hours they've worked but they can also track their accumulated days off and vacation time used.

Another time and money saver with an integrated time clock is the idea that you will not only save the time and money on having to buy and maintain the time clock but you will also save money on purchasing the physical time cards themselves. Keep in mind that a company has to store all time records for up to seven years and you can see that if you have a lot of employees, the storage of time cards could be an issue as well.

No longer can employees punch the time clock for a friend who either comes to work late or leaves early. With a unique employee log in each employee is responsible for his or her own hours. Integrated and electronic time clocks are also perfect for employees that work from home or work in off site locations. Once they clock in and out, the information is sent to the payroll system automatically and is gathered and stored until payroll has been processed.

Safety Risks When Dealing With New Personnel

It would be in every company's best interest in ensuring workplace safety to ask new employees about the nature of their previous work and the safety education they received. Too many accidents occur because businesses assume that everyone knows the basics. Businesses many times will find the worker did not know the basics only after an accident occurs. A business' men and women must all know their duties and rights.

Workers must know they have the right to participate in health and safety training and safety programs in the workplace. Also, they should be sufficiently informed, and have every right to be, about workplace hazards. Once employed, workers have the legal right to refuse work they may deem to be unsafe, and should they accept the job, are culpable for wearing any protective equipment or clothing that is required by both the business and local laws and ordinances.

New employees are more susceptible to accidents than those who have experience in the business' workplace. New workers can be classified many ways. This would definitely include new hires at any company, which encompasses ordinary employees and supervisors, those with or without business or industry experience and permanent or temporary employees. This covers anybody else who are new to the workplace, such as apprentices, co-op placements and working students. A new employee could also be a veteran employee who has been reassigned to a different department. Non-employees like contractors or general visitors must be made fully aware of a company's safety rules and regulations.

Orientation must cover more than just a simple workplace tour. Here are just a few of the many things these events should include - workplace safety rules that employees and visitors must follow, emergency protocol, employee and visitor requirements for safety equipment, first aid measures, location of and importance of having a safety board and other miscellaneous factoids about safety rights and responsibilities. It would also be a good idea to introduce younger workers or new hires to the company health and safety point person during the orientation, and include the person's name on the safety board.

Supervisors must ensure that communication with workers flows like a river. This would be especially essential if and when new personnel are hired. Communication should freely flow two ways between the supervisor and the worker. Questions on unsafe working conditions should be dealt with immediately. Supervisors must make sure that everybody under their watch follows safety procedures meticulously.

Everybody working in a company has a right to work in an environment that is safe, and it is the responsibility of the company owner and other people in charge to ensure safety for new and current employees. Federal law mandates that every company has the legal responsibility to instruct, inform and supervise each and every employee about the things they need to do to help in making the business a safe and healthy workplace. Every new worker must be legally protected upon beginning a new job. Laurence L.
